St. Charles partners with the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ to support newly licensed RNs in their transition to clinical practice. Our 12-month interactive program builds confidence and competence in providing high-quality, safe care — with a focus on each nurse's unique needs and well-being.

Specialty fellowship programs are also available for experienced RNs in Critical Care, Emergency Department, Family Birthing Center, and Operating Room.

RN Resident Progam FAQs

To be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Licensure: Must hold an active Oregon RN license by the Friday preceding the program start date.
  • Certification: Possess a current American Heart Association BLS (Healthcare Provider level).
  • Experience: Have less than one year of professional experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Education: Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing within the last 12 months.
  • Residency Completion: Successful completion of the St. Charles Health System residency is required within 12 months of placement.

Starting wage of RN Residents will be based on education and experience.
  • Starting Wage: $53- $57 (dependent on contract/hospital)
  • Night Differential: $10.00 (if applicable)
  • Weekend Differential: $2.00 - $5.50 (if applicable and dependent on contract/hospital)

The resident nurse will not be eligible for transfer to a different unit or change FTE for a period of nine (9) months from the beginning of the residency for Med/Surg positions and for a period of twelve (12) months from the beginning of the residency for Specialty positions. Applicants who are accepted into the program will be asked to commit to working at St. Charles Health System for at least two years.

  1. Apply online.
  2.  A member of the Talent Acquisition Team will reach out to you following your application to review details of the program and hold a phone screening interview.
  3. If you are moved forward in the application process, a Talent Acquisition Team member will schedule you for an Informational Session and Formal Interview with Clinical Practice and Professional Development and Department Managers.
  4.  Applicants who are moved forward, will need to submit a reference check review through Skill Survey for consideration into the program.
  5. A member of the Talent Acquisition Team will reach out to final candidates and alternates based on selection process
